The glass coffee table
Acrylic on canvas - 62.8 x 62.8 x 5.8 cm - framed, as pictured
Based on a photograph of a 1960's interior, I've worked to imagine how this space might change over time - how this space represents connections, movement, change. Through layering and repositioning of elements, and through bold lines and strong colours, I have created a striking piece which is both bold and delicate. Painted during a time of uncertainty and great anxiety, this work was slowly and carefully considered at each stage, while the brushstrokes and mark-making were fast and deliberate - mimicking my changing emotions and responses to the stress of this time. On reflection, I am most happy with the honesty this piece holds for me.
