ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kerry L Brown
A visual artist and designer, passionate about the Australian landscape, with a love of quirky, mid-century decor
'Opening myself up to pursue my art, It's like I am seeing the world more clearly, more vividly; I feel a strong compulsion to depict my surroundings as they feel, rather than simply what I see before me', says Kerry.
Kerry's works are confident, illustrative and textural, her style is ever-evolving, yet remains truly unique. Beyond the layers of colours, brushstrokes and line work is an underlying delicacy – an empathy, a 'quietness' – that at once reflects both her quiet, thoughtful nature and an innate ability to capture the psyche of her subject, be it landscape, interior, or other.
Based in Bendigo, in regional Victoria, Kerry is inspired by the natural environment, often using colours from the local landscape in her artwork. Working in the field, or from photographs she takes in the field, Kerry creates intuitive interpretations of a scene or moment, all the while carefully composing her works.
Kerry has a Bachelor of Arts from La Trobe University and a Certificate III in Visual Arts from the Northern College of the Arts and Technology. She regularly exhibits in Melbourne and regional Victoria and beyond. Currently, Kerry works from her home studio overlooking a native bush garden in Flora Hill.

BENDIGO POTTERY
Artist-in-Residence (Tenancy)
November 2019 - September 2021
I had a wonderful little studio/gallery space at the historic Bendigo Pottery complex, 15 minutes north of the Bendigo CBD. Sally and Rod were wonderful 'landlords' and are great supporters of the arts, particularly locally.
I've moved home, where I can work with views of my native garden surrounds... I'm still available for commissions or to meet up, by appointment. Soon I'll have a bigger home studio space... I'll let you know when it's in good enough shape to take visitors!
